Entry #10 werk tingzzz
Hello hypocrites! I know the last thing you want to be thinking about is work. Its Understandable, work tires us out, work ruins our day, work is like that one annoying person you avoid saying hi to in public. In America, we go to school for work, THEN work to pay for life, THEN create a 401K, THEN retire and die. It sounds brutal, but isn't that life? Not all common people follow that specific order, but essentially the goal is to build a retirement and wait for our souls to adventure out our bodies (die). Before I begin, I would like to note that I just pulled a double in my shifts and I am sooooooooo exhausted! I worked from 6am till 6:35pm... However at least I am gettin that bread! (Slang word for money).

Ponder this, are you working to only make ends meet? Maybe you're a student working to pay off college or a mom trying to support her children. Do you notice anything about your work? Meaning, do you notice any injustice? Unfairness? or any annoying factor at all? You most likely nodded your head yes, unless you have a perfect job-because that totally exists. Let me provide some scenarios, say you're a fast food worker that notices unsanitary procedures no one talks about. Or maybe your manager favors others based on their personality and not work ethic.Or maybe you notice the business you work for takes more money from the customers than they should. It is impossible to have a perfect job or business, it is always going to be flawed in some way or another.
Speaking of work, retirement and injustice I want to share a personal yet, informational experience from a specific job position. This job position is a server for the assisted living at a retirement home. The assisted living are handicapped elderly that suffer from levels of dementia, strokes, blindness, severe diabetes, and the list goes on and on... This position needs you to go beyond work requirements, otherwise many of the residents may suffer more than they already do.
For instance, many of these servers encounter residents who get upset if the food is too spicy or nasty but, in reality it is not spicy it's just pepper seasoning and the reason why their taste buds are so sensitive is because of their dementia. Here is an article that show cases all sorts of Dementia Symptoms. You are told to go along with the residents if they are having a memory loss episode. For example, a resident refuses to order because they are waiting for their mom to arrive and eat with them. As a server you have to go along with it and say something like "Its okay your mother told me for you to eat first before she arrives" so they decide to order and eat. Otherwise they would be sitting there waiting for hours on their mom that died 20 years ago. As a server, you need to put yourself in their shoes. Consider why they are upset, and why they are taking it out on you, understand that its because of their brain disorder. There are care-givers who wheel down handicapped residents and leave them in the restaurant for hours after they are already done eating. You can either be the server that doesn't care if they eat or not or be the server that will go above and beyond to list alternative food options for them. I witness a lot of injustice, and sadly, its out of my power to do anything. I see bad servers who only do their job for money, or caregivers who are rude and abuse them, and unsanitary food procedures. Today I argued with a caregiver about letting the resident eat what they want for desert. Like, what the fuck? If a piece of cookie makes them happy on their last days LET THEM HAVE THE DAMN COOKIE. Anyway-It is easy to fall into these lazy work habits of not caring, or not washing your hands every time you itch your nose, but you have to. The employees in a retirement home are the only way these residents can live their last days, weeks, months, years safely.
I get that this position is not as extreme as some but, your work ethic in general goes along way. Imagine if all the employees stayed honest and passionate, there would be no work injustices at all. of course that is hard in a capitalistic country, but (Warning: My cheeseballness is about to roll its way out) BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD.
I recommend watching this video to help understand the meaning of work values. Now, I am not saying to wash every cabinet when you enter work, or color code files to show that you're better than that Johnny guy picking his nose. I just want to raise awareness on work itself. Let's not only be here for money, let's learn, let's be better humans. AND thats the tea sis!
